4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I just went out the garage and found 7 of my biggest koi dead... Water was is pristine condition, no signs of bacterial incfection, no parasites, no fugal infections, these fish look perfectly healthy other than the fact that they were dead. Only 3 of the koi that were in the garage are still here... These are expensive fish and I'm heartbroken, not to mention that I have no idea what killed them. Sorry that this has nothing to do with chickens or hatching, but this thread is a great place with lots of people who care.

So sorry...

Candled my eggies. So far I can see all 6 BLRW developing STRONG!! A few Basque eggs have veining, a few Wheaten Marans are developing (the others are still too dark for me to see clearly), and I think A FEW OF THE WEST COAST TREKKING EGGS ARE DEVELOPING!! These are the eggs that accidentally got sent from CA to AK to CA again. These are Lemon Blue Bantam Cochins and I hope they survive!! WOOHOO!

I attempted to candle all of the eggs today. There were only about 4 that I definitely could see veining in, but most of them are pretty dark and my incubator took a few days to get up to a decent temp... I'll try really hard to sit on my hands and not candle anymore until Tuesday...

It is great to see some veining at this point!

Sorry to hear about the Koi

I knew someone who was big into them several years ago then something (disease) wipped out nearly 100% across the us in a short timeframe.
I don't know the details but is was something that was spreading out in the world, so ppl's koi would be fine, then dead, w/o outside contact to other koi.
That was 5-10 ish yrs ago (time flies),

Only recently hearing of ppl keeping them again...other than that all I know is they are anywhere from costly to OMG seriously for one fish, ohhhh...

-& on a chicken note - "candled" one more egg (still w/o the granny glasses) saw nothing well saw a lit up clear egg ...

If you know anything about fish keeping or what might have killed them, please pm me. Oxygen should have been fine, the stock tank contains 80 gallons of water and I had a 100 gallon air pump with two 10 inch air stones in it. Not to mention the water was only 50 degrees so the oxygen goes a lot farther.
