BATOR update.... Begining of day 20 WE HAVE our first Pipper!! OE! and a loud little peeper she is!!

I'm jealous, I want to have something hatching! I had an OE that was the first out of a hatch and she was noisy too, She got named Beep-Beep and would hop on your shoulder or ride around on the dog's back, quite a character.

I got up an hour ago...Fiancee said he'd be getting up in a few to take a shower so we could get our day started...need to go to my sister's and drop off eggs/pick up spent grains for the girls and my Dad's Christmas tree which is coming home with me...no clue where the heck I'm going to put a gaudy neon blue Christmas tree.....but I get it! Then on the road to the cemetary (sp?) to wish my Dad a Merry Christmas....then home to PA to check on the chickens and ducks...and Fiancee says he'll clip the duck's wings to appease the neighbors....grr...

Awww Missy! The TREAT WILL be beautiful!!!!

I cant imagine life without my daddo even at this age : (

Hallelujah! The wind stopped! Unreal! It's 32 degrees outside, and actually feels like it. When that wind was blowing, it felt like it was below 0!

Now, waiting for that snow storm that is supposed to hit today, don't see it looking that way yet...oh boy, that means the wind has to blow it in.

I hate wind too. We had a cold front come in a few days ago and it was so windy. We have a metal shed outside (thankfully it was empty) and it slid about 20 feet. It didn't get that cold (around 55 during the day) but the wind made it feel so much colder.

Sally, I don't think I have cold spots in my incubator. It was practically draft free except when the top was opened which it wasn't opened all the way. There was that huge temp spike a week ago when it was about 114 degrees for about 20 mins. That egg was closest to the heat bulb. But, I have a piece of cardboard I use as a heat shield to prevent eggs from getting direct heat and UV light from the basking lamp I use. There is also a very strong PC fan blowing air over the heat bulb and circulating the hot air to prevent hot/cold spots and to keep fresh air coming and going from the holes in the top of the unit. I can't think of any reason the chick would have died.

But I am not going to fret over it. What is done is done and I don't think there is anything I could have done differently. I am just glad I have almost all of my chicks healthy and happy!

Ok...so this is my first hatch, and this might be a very basic stupid question... but WHEN do you move the chicks from the 'bator to the brooder?? I can't seem to find an answer to that.

Usually when the chicks are fluffy'n dry and s tart playing basket ball with the other eggs.

They are tiny (if you find high quality ones that is) however the ducks are VERY VERY VERY loud. That is why we no longer raise them. They would greet hubby at 4:15 am when he turned on the kitchen lights to start his day.

No idea on the quail, we do all of the hatching eggs for the science department each year. So we started with quail this year, they will do chicken, duck and goose yet

I have 10 Calls and they are very noisy. However, I lock them inside my insulated building at night so I cannot hear them at all until I let them into their run.

I just thought I'd drop in and say howdy everyone, will be baking all day, my daughter and niece will be coming over in a little while for a day of baking. They thought we weren't doing it, but I wanted the cookies to be fresh. Lucky for me the scrooge is at work until 4pm and won't rain on my festivities. Have a great day.

Morning Sally! I have 5 Seramas (4 girls, 1 boy). One of my girls is the daughter to the other Seramas. I took some pictures of them the other day. Their names are Little Man, Honey, Bridgette, Lacey, and Stephanie. = )
