4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

So these are the rabbit/guinea pig cages that I would be trying to convert into brooders...

As you can see, they are just sitting out there, collecting snow right now. It's a shame because I paid good money for them several years ago when we bred our Holland Lop and ended up keeping two of the babies... I'll be glad to have found a use for them! Looks like the kids and I have our weekend project!!!
I think mine is just like that. It might be wider? About 3 feet wide, if those are 3 feet, mine is exactly like that, and that's exactly what I use it for! Only thing is, I don't have the snowy roof for mine, I think it's awesome!

Oh, one note, I got that packing cardboard in a roll? And I used it to line the inner walls to protect from drafts, works really well. I've also got some old bed sheet folded up and laying on top of half of mine for my Serama pullets and cockerel to help them stay just a little bit warmer.
This is the "brooder" I have Prim and her babies in right now. My DS brought it home from his uncle's place. It was used to put rabbits in the yard to graze. It has no bottom and half of the top lifts up.

It's about 6X6X2'
Oh, I like that very much! nice and huge, can put a lot of chicks in there!
Bow to your partner Do Si Do

That's just too cute!!!

Well, I'm down to one egg. When I had two, I said I wanted both or none to hatch. I have changed my mind. I really want this little guy to make it! (And, with my luck, it will probably be a "guy", but that's ok. I'll find him a good home. :) )

DUCK brooder?

any special needs in the brooder for food and water and what feed do I need on hand??

anyone have links???

I hatched ducks last years Easter hatch. Someone told me to put adult diapers on the brooder floor. It really helped with the cleaning and absorbing the water mess they will make.

SleepyOwl, I've got my fingers crossed for you on that one hatchs (& being a lovely lays eggs type of gal chicken :)

Also, since lockdown is tomorrow, should I candle NOW or tomorrow just before noon?
Easier to do it tonight while it is dark...hum, decisions decisions...

Also, humidity from lockdown forward for chicken eggs ideally is what? over 60%?

Haven't gotten all the way through to update myself here..so not sure you got an answer? I personally have found, that if the humidity is set with the old school of mid 70's..that's waaay to high. I keep mine around 60 to 62 %. Not as wet for them to pip through. So many drown when the humidity has been set too high. That's me though..with an air, and still air. Same for both. Good luck to you.
