lol , I candle about at week one I do take the eggs out of incubator and check by " candling method" with the light I made reference to. If no devolpment I trash them. Then I recandle at lockdown. I do open when there are a bunch of chicks running around and put them in a broody pen.other thanWho here thinks Michael has extraordinarily good eye sight? Okay, there is the possibility that he knows what he's looking for.
I try to candle as LITTLE as possible. If it smells, I take it out. I don't want to risk dropping an egg, since I can hardly tell what I'm looking at. On Day 18 that aircell (or lack thereof) is fairly obvious ~even I can see it. So that's the day we clean house and keep the good ones.
Quote: I had to be quick, I was trying to write on three threads INCLUDING the CONTEST for posting thread!!!!!Dutch is more "choppy" lol![]()
MORNING Sailor!!Marking my place. See ya tomorrow 100s of posts later .....
Oh!!! how many are ok??? you still have plenty in the bator?I candled my eggs tonight too! It wasnt what I expected, most showed up clear....Im thinking it's fertility. I have pekin duck eggs, and i dont think they breed as much in thee winter as they do in spring/summer. Well good luck to everybody.![]()
LOL why dont you just add a red heat light to the coop?? adding... it is adorable..... you could do something with that pic inthe look alike contest too!!Ok, So earlier I was telling you guys that my single combed roosters end up with frostbite every winter. Well I finally did something, it's not very good, and needs work but here is my little prototype comb protector. It need to be tighter, maybe using a more stretchy yet thick fabric? I can't justify any sort of chin strap. The rooster in the pictures in named Tom Jr. and he didn't mind wearing it, but it wouldn't stay on for very long. He would peck at the dirt and fly his head back and it would just fall off which is why I'm thinking a slightly tighter, more stretchy material would help.
What do you guys think?

awwwwwww frizzles!!!!I couldn't go to sleep thinking none of my eggs were developing, so I candled all of them. I found 4 of them developing and one possibly developing, or else it's a blood ring. I'm not throwing the others away yet, they could show something in a day or two, but I'm relieved enough to know I have possibilities tonight! What really made my heart soar is that my one frizzle egg from bhep has the clearest strongest spider vein of 'em all, and I really want that one to hatch!
That one and please, one more (don't want any singletons!) Just gotta make it 18 more days 'till hatch!![]()
