4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Good Morning everyone.
What's going on inside our Chicken eggs-Day 4:

From-Egg-to-Chicken-4.jpg

Torsion and flexion continue through the fourth day. The chick's entire body turns 90° and lies down with its left side on the yolk. The head and tail come close together so the embryo forms a "C" shape. The mouth, tongue, and nasal pits develop as parts of the digestive and respiratory systems. The heart continues to enlarge, even though it has not been enclosed within the body. It is seen beating if the egg is opened carefully. The other internal organs continue to develop. By the end of the fourth day of incubation, the embryo has all organs needed to sustain life after hatching, and most of the embryo's parts can be identified. The chick embryo cannot, however, be distinguished from that of mammals.

Fourth day -- beginning of tongue
can u do this for duck eggs too?

Morning! I can't believe there were still over 60 posts on the contest 6 thread after I went to bed!! I'm gonna be so far behind when I get home today. I have a busy day, so I'm not sure I can keep up. I get to go watch my youngest son play basketball! It's his second game, but I had to work last time. Good thing he has wonderful grandmas and aunties to go watch and cheer for him! Then I have my office Christmas party tonight... Maybe no one will olive if I sneak my iPad in and glance at it occasionally??

OH Christmas party!!! YAY enjoy it!!!

Morning! I second the congrats to MarineCorpFarmer and gamebirdsonly, but there were a ton of seriously dedicated posters in that thread.

I randomly selected an egg from each batch in my bators and saw only 2 with good development, I think I might be in the running for worst hatch rate.

I don't usually look this early, now I wish I hadn't!
oh NO!!!!

So, I have 7 less eggs. My almost 2 year old dd is fascinated with the incubator. I was on the phone scheduling my npip testing last night and didn't notice her sneak in the incubator room for a few minutes and that was long enough for her to grab all of them from the front row and throw them on the floor.

Luckily I had it blocked off (because I know she likes the incubator and has done this before) so she couldn't get it all the way open and those were the only eggs she could get to.
