4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Im sorry about your rooster sally what happend to him?

I have a bit of a sensitve question , I dont want to upset anyone. and I am very gratefull for the daily updates on whats happening inside the egg but could you post the picture on another page and link that page on the page with the information, I find the pictures of dead babies very upseting just the thought that someoe cracks open an egg to take a picture puts me in tears. .

DS2 and I hiked through the snow out to the juvenile shed to check in on the silkie pair and the young IBs. DS got to hold his favorite chicken, a sweet blue cuckoo Silkie hen named "Victoria" while we fed the "baby Kevins" as he calls them (since we had a singleton chick named Kevin a while back). They are all snug, warm and tight in the shed with a heated waterer, heat lamp, and lots of shavings to scratch about. Refilled the feeders, collected the day's silkie egg, then headed back to the house. DS had fun following the chicken tracks in the snow from the free ranging layer flock, out and about today.

The young IBs are getting bigger, all feathered in and glossy. Can't wait for the next clutch, 8 days away!

Love wrapping presents, mine have been under the tree for a week, LOL. I used to wrap all the presents when I lived at home, even my own.

Mom would just hand me a blank box and say "Wrap it, don't look".

The boys (2 and 3) have been a little hard on the presents this week, but the wrapping paper is mostly still intact. Tomorrow's the big day, they'll be so excited!

Hung my new door on the coop this am. Will finish trimming it when it isn't so frickity frick frick frick cold out, but it's snug and secure for now. All pleased with myself, never built a door before, but pleased with the results.

Also attached, a few photos of the IBs out exploring while I was fixing their coop. Love them, tough little birds.

Thanks everyone... Melvin was the Man here.....so sorry all the eggs we had in the bator were infert that were from his pen.

I just dont get it,,,, And YES I cried like a baby this am... \Harmony was really bad but DH took her to grammas xmas party so Ithink she will be ok now.....I stayed home

he was fine! I took all those pics and vid last week n friday so I could add them to the story poem for the contest on here.... then last night he seemed tired, just standing around sleeping.... so I held him and he slept on my lap, but I checked him out thoroughly and seen nothing felt nothing wrong, no cough no nottta!! So I put them all to roost and he musta made a cozy spot on the floor in the shavings (fresh clean shavings as we had cleaned a little earlier that day) and he had tucked his head and breathed shallow and finally passed.... this is the 2nd in less than a month!!

I walked around in the run and the only thing I seen is a few pcs of styro the board kind to insulate houses, this fall we had made a new hot tub cover and their were a few xtra scraps, one day I remmeber yelling at daddy when he was messing around with the car that lucas was playing with a leftover sheet and told him to clean it up with him... well and some of the bits musta blown in the run... I am assuming its the styro!!!??????????? And could have done my Dark brahma hen in as well the other week! I felt him up and down and looked all over at him before I put him to roost... didnt see anything wrong!!! ugggggg if it happens to another I am doing a blood drawl and sending it off! or doing what blarney said taking the whole body to test.

it all stinks, all the OE eggs and stuff have hatched and I could care less right now.... I would have NEVER thought I would be so upset, what is worse is NOT knowing for sure what went wrong, was it me, was it the styro, is it disease uggggggggg AND WHO IS NEXT
