4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Darn BYC and NYD Hatch-a-long.... My one morning I could sleep in and I keep waking from dreams of lockdown!! I kept waking in a panic, because in some of the dreams, people were playing tennis with my eggs! Or I didn't have the right equipment ready..... Oh boy.... I think I need help... I've got it bad.....

Here are the pictures so far of my Mystery NYD swap eggs! (my eggs came early)
I had 6 out of 6 quail hatch!! 2 out of 6 OEGB hatch yesterday morning and this morning when I moved my mystery ducks to the brooder, 2 more hatched. Pictured is 8 of them but 2 more are in the incubator. I can't tell about the remaining 2 eggs, they may have pips. I will post pictures of them tomorrow!! What a great hatch, Thank you silkie sensations and _________?
I think my ducks are Khaki Campbells?

How precious!

Well, bummer I lost all my multiquotes.

Ah well, it was mostly full of brooder envy anyway. LOVE LOVE LOVE the quail babies! So do you eat them or just their eggs? CAN you release quail to the wild or is it an ecological issue?

I'm locked down now as I have some early activity too. These Iowa Blues are very early hatchers usually, though since I used different incubator it might affect that. I'm excited to see!

Good luck on your hatch and hoping for a few IBs from mine as well! Have loads more IBs cooking, but this is my first run with my separate inbator/hatcher setup. So far the incubator is doing a stellar job as almost all eggs are developing nicely. We'll see how the hatching portion goes. Hope it works! Incubator is somehow full, not sure how that happened (cough), but going to have to go out and get another egg turner to fill the 3rd slot in the incubator for some eggs that accidentally are being shipped to me to get some Marans back in the laying pen.

I went downstairs to check my bator, and the temp was 102.4!!!! It was in the 101's last night, so I turned it DOWN. I know I turned it down, I double checked... So why did my temp go UP??? I hope it didn't hurt anything! I'll be pretty bummed if something catastrophic happens this far into the hatch!!

I've had to increase ventilation to the incubator as the eggs are causing temps to go up where they have been steady for 2 weeks. Temps settled out nicely.

Can you go through this again? I have it about 35 % right now. Do I take it up to 60-62 for lockdown and then up again for pipping or do I take it up to 62 and then that is it?
You got some good advice there. I go back and forth on humidity I have really noticed it depends on how much your Incubator holds it. Some people will not be able to get it up to 62 no matter what. Some people will be over. If you are way over remember most styrafoam incubators have little holes in the top you can open to vent them. Just remember if you don't need to open that bator, don't do it. This is sometimes the hardest part of hatching. Its the one I fail at most.

Someone mentioned a dream where her dicky went all Linda Blair and the trays started turning all 360. I keep seeing that as a vision now since the great omlette of 2012 happened earlier in the month.

For some of you you will have chicks that look to be stuck, you will want to look at the Should I help post or thread. I don't have a link, can someone post it ?

I have early quail, and they are sticky! Too sticky for pictures, no nice fluffy babies for me this moring, lol. One of them ran to the cool off side of the tank and got cold, so I stuck her back in the bator, hope she makes it.
