4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

For those using the Genesis 1588 with the toggles(new one adjusts from the top) Here is the method for changing the temp below and above the chicken Range. You can incubate frogs and etc. This way.

The Temperature will go up as the humidity goes down. The chicks are getting close to being ready to hatch, so they do not need to be as hot as they were earlier. After they hatch, the brooder is set at 95. You can hatch at 97 degrees and be fine. Do not worry so much if the temp is not exactly at 99.5 now. They will be fine and may hatch better a degree or so down from 99.5.

x2 I actually have my hatcher set to 98, bator at 100. Really seem to have the best hatch rates this way.

Ok officially candled last night, 39 out of 41 made it to lockdown woot! So 39 eggs were locked down about a half hour ago, I am a little early but I don't think its a bad thing because 4 or 5 of my eggs are rocking like crazy

I locked down, 22 eggs , (I'm 90% sure at least half are not viable but none are gross or smell so there are in just in case).

I'm really not thrilled w/ the humidity issue, I didn't plan on it requiring so much effort to keep the humidity up, but got my fingers cross
and will make some changes for next hatch. Same w/ opps that clever turner is not removable so the chickies will have to hatch around it.

And the egg-citement builds....

Meanwhile, I'm waiting on the guy who I'm giving a trio to arrive, the 3 birds are in cat carriers getting mud & water all over my kitchen floor.
The Roads appear wet, everything else is snow/ice/slush ugh...not loving winter in the mtns, (yes I know everyone else has it way worse, but I moved back to the South for a reason which does not apply here apparently).

Thanks for all the info. & advice on everything from ppl here -- it has helped A TON ! I'm really glad I joined BYC & am doing the hatchalong :)

Good Luck to Everyone & Happy NYDH Lockdown Day Ya'll

I locked down my 6 eggs. Then, I went outside to give fresh water to the chickens. Come inside, my 19 month old boy is standing there holding two of the eggs, incubator wide open.

No eggs where broken- so I sure hope no damage done

Lock down complete!!!

All 31 viable eggs form my 14 day candle are still moving!! Separated them into 6 different baskets... Took a bit longer to sort everything out than I thought it would. I'll have to streamline the system for my next hatch... Hope my bator recovers quickly.

Good luck on your hatch and hoping for a few IBs from mine as well!  Have loads more IBs cooking, but this is my first run with my separate inbator/hatcher setup.  So far the incubator is doing a stellar job as almost all eggs are developing nicely.  We'll see how the hatching portion goes.  Hope it works!  Incubator is somehow full, not sure how that happened (cough), but going to have to go out and get another egg turner to fill the 3rd slot in the incubator for some eggs that accidentally are being shipped to me to get some Marans back in the laying pen.  :clap

Marans eggs ACCIDENTALLY shipped? I need to get in on that action.

Good luck missy...ahem, BTW...I just got a new pup..a Golden, and we named her Missy.  Little Miss, Little girl, but mostly comes out Missy.  :D   Love her already.

If there aren't pics, it didn't happen.
