Had to do a lot of skipping again, too much going on!!! LOL Absolutely LOVE all the cute chicks pics!

This is the only one. She's lonely only. I think her name is Blackberry and I think she may be a house chicken

She is seriously a cutie! If at all possible, you should try to find a friend for her, no human can give a chick the amount of attention they need, really... unless you can keep her on your person at all times! It's just that she'd be happier if she had a friend or two..?

did it look like it had a crest when it was born? Well, even a tiny poof? Mine doesn't! DX
But was yours polish to brown leghorn hen? Mine looks like it has muffs!

Oh, have any of your hybrids grown up, and do they lay a lot of eggs??? I have Crevecoeurs with my leghorns LOL, was thinking of hatching some mutts when they start laying??

cluck cluck..here's the thing on forced air bators..I don't like them. I just thought it was interesting that years later after having bought the first still air, that they changed the temp set. Oh well, it's close enough. My eggs in the new bator are doing well. I've had all sorts of bators. Three nice air forced, and Reptpro..and the still air. I have better hatches in the still airs! I would say the Reptpro..spelling..came in second best. Holds the humidity like the still airs do really well. Don't need it high during incubation, or during lock down.

Oh! Well, could be that's my problem, maybe I have WAY to much air movement in my incubator! I should check in on that and adjust it! I think I might have fallen for the more is better attitude,.. but now I can see why that may not be advisable, and my eggs that don't make it do seem shrink wrapped, though I kept my humidity spot on.... !

Gosh, I went to that help page, and I'm so glad now that I took apart my incubator right away, cleaned it up, and put it in proper storage for next time, 'cause I'm usually so lazy and let things sit, and probably get full of bacteria, etc... then next time I want to use it, I have to clean it, and probably wouldn't get bacteria out of the nooks and crannies! For once I was a good girl!!!

This is the Christmas present I wanted and didnt get, and my birthday I didnt get eggs!!

I pray I can get some of your beautiful Blue Cochin!!

Congratulations again Sally, you were really into this NYD hatch from the get go! And that picture is adorable!

How many does that make for you 4 ? 5? This is awsome in one month period you pretty much can add anything you want to your flock and get lots of other goodies. Im so happy for you . I bet your duaghter is super happy as well , what kind of eggs will she get to hatch ?

My largest egg has been pipped all day, but now I see that there is a little more of it pipped. Will probably be all night like the Nankin. If it makes it to morning, that is the due date. Hope to see other pips by morning. My little Nankin is starting to call for someone, anyone. I go in, and she hides under the towel, until I pick her up she is afraid. Cute little stink.

This is my brooder as of this AM, right before I put my little umbilical dragged in there... Amazing what a mess they can make Ina couple of hours!

This is the little one that pipped the wrong end. At this point she still needed to absorb her yolk sac...

And this is the other black and white, just waiting to finish kicking out of her shell...

This was my mystery chick this morning. She has the huge mushy abdomen and was still very weak. I took these three to work with me in the bator...

Here they are this afternoon... My mystery chick in the little box I made her so she can stay upright, and the two black and whites wrestling!

I made the decision last minute to put the little umbilical dragged in the brooder because the cord had dried up and shriveled. I didn't take another picture of the brooder after I put her in, so here she is in the bator just before I moved her...

So I have 22 live chicks!
22 of 45 total, of 31 that made it to lockdown... I had one that hatched, then died about an hour later... Does that count towards my hatch rate? That would mean I hatched 51% instead of 49%...

That large egg is zipping. I can hear the Nankin screaming in the other room, she must be able to hear the other one, which has a pretty good voice already! Larger baby!

Good for you!!! That Mushy Chick Article is what I am adding to the assisted hatching article, but its getting to be an article by itself. So its still a work in progress, I need to add some suggestions for what to clean the bator with and then there is A BIG ISSUE of what to add to water wells....

think about those water wells and most people add water on day 1, and it "stews" in there for over 21 days!! Blech!!! I had mold in my water well the VERY FIRST TIME I used it.... tell me thats not sending bacteria to my eggies!!! I'm using cups I can remove and wash until lockdown!
