Is there much difference to heritage and hatchery quality?

As far as I can tell there is still Egg Art contest, Holiday photo contest and both the Best and worst Hatch for both large and small setting eggs.

*egg Art contests, I cannot close that poll, when someone is not sick in bed that can clse it is here, Ill have it posted.
* celebrity chicken winner will be announced today if its not been yet
*holiday MMC posted hers, other one I do not know about
* Best, worst, and small are waiting on peopel to report eggs.

As for doing polls for all photo contests, Polls are a pain to set up and run. So it won't be for all of them. I agree it would be more fun, but there is a work vrs reward issue here and it is what it is. I am thinking about ways it could be less of a pain to set up, if anyone has great ideas PM me.

I used to think Showgirls were so ugly too. Then my daughter dragged 1 home from a swap meet & we were hooked. I had hatched a little EE/Turken a month or so earlier & it was the 1st chick we sold. Everyone wanted them & I couldn't get naked necks in fast enough.

Showgirls and there erm.. startling looks got me started on chickens. My first 5 original showgirls ( lost 2 who thought they should swim) were from a guy who got a silkie pullet who went off and hid eggs from him as soon as he got her home. He was shocked and appalled at the little things. He just wanted these defective chickens off his property, lol.

So where do you post the # of chicks that hatched?

Some. Hatchery chicks are not bread towards SOP, they just have parents who are that variety and they hatch all the eggs. A Breeder usually is trying to go towards the SOP, and may also be looking for personality , hardiness, size, etc.

You can get great chicks from a hatchery if the parents happened to be great. You can get fugly ones as well, since they are not working at any goals but chicks .

Some breeds it is more noticeable then others. Some breeds are imposssible to find as hatchery chicks. Some breeders are less vigilant about the stock they keep as well. Every situation is different.
