Sorry that I haven't posted those pictures yet, I've been having trouble uploading them.

Otherwise, that sounds like a very cool experiment Sally! I sure hope you'll be sharing the results with us. I would do it, but I honestly haven't seen an egg in over 3 months now. This is a new record, hahaha. Cochins aren't exactly known for being the best layers and most of my current flock are either pullets or 4 - 6 year old birds. Some are at their prime laying age, but they just aren't cooperating. Hopefull I'll see eggs again next month.

To be honest, I had a wonky air cell in one of my own eggs. It was just about frozen when I collected. I don't think the PO is to blame so much. I'll try this though.

Buttons!! look how tiny, those light eggs are the Silkie eggs, OMG tiny.. smaller than a robin egg by HALF!!!

guess what I did...... trying to prevent frozen eggs, we get over a doz a day.... I added shavings in BULK to nest boxes..... three eggs were cracked on the floor!!! DOLP!!!!!!!!!!

Lol. Yesterday, I didn't get many eggs, but as I was leaving to go out for the night, I figured I should check one last time... I found EIGHT more eggs. Turned it into my best egg day so far!
