4th of July Hatch-Along!

Chicks have been hatching!

#61 Carolina @GodLovesU I mentioned above, she had pipped the wrong end and I ended up helping her after 24 hours because I wasn't quite sure she would be able to zip out on her own. She is doing great and now in the brooder!

#63 Flag 2 hatched and is a cute little paint baby! @Debbie292d I gave this egg your name of Flag 2 since the first Flag didnt hatch.

#66 Union @Chicken_Obsesser Cute baby who looks blue with the penguin markings (which comes from the extended black gene - something I need to learn more about.)

All the chicks above are now in the brooder. There are a few others who have hatched but are still in the incubator! They are Lincoln, Liberty 2, and Indie! I will post with their photos as they get moved over to the brooder.

Okay and this is what I woke up to this morning - 13 chicks in the incubator Just mass chaos!

Okay first the lavender group - they are all babies from 3 of my cute F1 pullets. I randomly assigned F1 eggs to them and just took a group photo.

Maybe I can give one of the unnamed eggs that name so that we can still have a Stars and Stripes!

Okay everyone! All eggs with a number before 60 are out of the incubator. 60-73 are still incubating and they have a couple of days to go before they start hatching!

I ended up helping a few babies yesterday evening, all of the assisted babies have been doing great (I think it was about 4-5.) Some of them were malpositioned. Sadly, 2 more chicks died before I began assisting - Red and Whitey @Chickadee7790 Both were malpositioned with their head at the bottom of the egg instead of near the air cell. I had been assigning names of eggs that didnt hatch to the unclaimed eggs - and I had one unclaimed egg left so #73 is yours now and is named Red & White

But here are all the babies that made it out and are doing well at the moment!

#40 Lexi @AinaWGSD - a darling little lavender baby!

#58 Iowa @AmericanDwarfChicken - you can tell by the eggshell that she had a bit of a rough hatch! But seems to be a fighter thus far!

#56 Patriot @Themellowyellows - Sweet black baby!

#55 Republic @Slothinc - a very vocal little one!

#57 Ford @Lacy Duckwing - so cute!! Had made his pip hole larger, but not progressed so I gave him a hand and he popped right out and was ready to start living his life!

#53 Allegiance @BoundlessLove Cute silkie baby with a serious ‘fro going on!

Aww...poor little ones. Come on Red & White! You can make it!!

All the chicks are so very cute! This has been a lot of fun. Thanks for putting this all together!!

Okay everyone, the 4th of July hatch is officially over Thank you to everyone who has followed along! I am so sorry to say that out of the last batch of chicks. There was one that didn’t make it out of the shell and that was #68 Philadelphia. But the others are doing well and I am feeling so blessed with such a good turnout.

Here are the rest of the hatched chicks!

62 Lincoln @oldhenlikesdogs Either a white, or very lightly marked paint chick!

64 Liberty 2 @oldhenlikesdogs Another paint chick with a small vaulted head.

70 Donald @Themellowyellows A lavender cutie! Needed a little help out of the egg, but is doing well now!

71 Hubbardton @CrazyForMyPeeps802 Another lavender

72 Red & White @Chickadee7790 And another lavender?!?!

73 Independence (Indie!) @CrazyForMyPeeps802 AND YET ANOTHER LAVENDER

And another huge thank you to Brinsea and BYC who made this hatch along possible with the Maxi 24EX Connect incubator that was the prize for winning a contest earlier this year. The incubator did a really great job with the eggs and was essentially set-and-forget!!! And I had set a lot of young pullet eggs also, as an experiment, and I had a better hatch rate than I thought I would, with that considered! Out of 51 eggs, only 7 didnt hatch, so I ended up with 44 beautiful babies from this hatch! Thanks again everyone!!!! Many of the chicks have left to their new homes, but maybe I will update here when I am down to just my keeper chicks!

Im so happy most of these chickies made it! I hope they grow to be such beautiful strong babies and live such good lives!
