Looks like a female.


It doesn't necessarily mean it was mixed somewhere. Single comb is a Recessive trait that can pop up every once in awhile if both parents are R/r+

(Lower case is recessive)

Thank you I shall handle her more and see if she chills a little lol. The male is so much more calm.

This is the only D’uccle I have and am really hoping a female. Any guesses? I have to decide if I want to get another today. View attachment 3049293

That's a lot of comb for 4 weeks... but also nice that you can know so early. I'd get 3 more if you can... hopefully you'll have at least one female then.

They finalized the order but I was able to add two more right after @MysteryChicken said male. It’s such a nice bird and I very much wanted a female, I will be watching the next two D’uccles closely

I forgot to ask @MysteryChicken too, how do you tell whether D’uccles are cockerel or pullet? I thought it was comb color color and early waddles or is there just so much comb so early it’s obviously going to go red?

Comb size, & color if there's any is a cockerel. They'll have larger combs that are most times pinker.

Pullets have small pale combs.

ahhhh, I thought I was safe with it yellow and no waddles yet. Now I know what to look for as the two chicks I’m getting next grow. So glad be able to chat with everyone experienced and learn.
