We were told this would be female (but not lay eggs) when we bought as chick (we bought 10).
But this one started crowing (but not too loud). So neighbors are not too happy...
Is this a male since its crowing?
Does anyone know what breed this is?

Thanks in advance

Yes - it is a male. What reason was it they gave that it would not lay eggs? The fact that they made such a statement tells me they knew what they were doing in passing this one off on you as a female.

A scam for sure, if that's what they meant.

Thank you for all your quick answers. He is a really gentle/goofy rooster I really love him, but i'm afraid I will have to find him a new home cos of my neighbor :(((

You have a Polish rooster, it may be buff laced, can't say for sure from the pic.

Polish are considered an ornamental breed, not a high production bird, but they do indeed lay eggs. It would be kind of hard to get baby Polish without a hen laying at least some eggs

Hahaha so true donrae, i guess he was an egg once. Thank you so much for your answer!!

I hate to give him up but sadly I will have to since he's too loud.
Do some people on the sell/buy/trade forum take in chickens looking for a home?

I would love to keep him (he is a such a gentle little guy) but my neighbor is been complaining for the last couple of weeks so...
