5 cockerels?

Hey everyone! Looking for a shred of hope. We purchased 5 Rhode Island Reds straight run to start our back yard flock. Getting sexed pullets are nearly impossible right now with all our local hatcheries selling out almost instantly. The feed store we purchased from said they tried to give us all pullets from their straight run chicks but I’m having some serious doubts. At 7 weeks all of them have large combs and at least three have wattles coming in. Is there any chance any of these are hens?

Oooh I wish I could give you some good news, and keep in mind I’m no professional but I’m guessing those are all cockerels. I’m so sorry I just got 8 chicks from the store and they said they only ever get pullets but I have my doubts. They are only 2 weeks old so I don’t know yet.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for yours! I’m going to wait (and hope) and see how these ones shape up, but it might be time to face the music (or crow it would seem )

You could keep a bachelor flock as long you don't get any hens they should be okay together, although if you want eggs then....

Uh, yup. No question. Either really bad luck, or they were actually sexed male. You'll get to can some soup for next winter!
