View attachment 1435921 This is our first time having chickens. One of our chicks started loosing fluff on her bottom at 3 days old. Now at 5 days old we separated her from the rest because she keeps loosing it. Our friend said it could be because the other chick were pecking at her bottom and another friend said it could be because they grow so fast that they loose their fluff faster than their feathers come in. It is starting to go up further. She is pooping fine and she's clean. I can't find anything online about this. Not pasty butt. Any help is appreciated. My kids named her stinker butt! Oh and I'm not squeezing my chick like crazy in the picture. It looks kind of scary.

Why does she look wet?

It's entirely possible the other chicks are pecking at her. How many chicks do you have, how big is the brooder, what is the set up like in terms of heat, food, etc? If chicks are too crowded they can have issues, or occasionally you can have a bad egg.

A friend told us to put vasiline on her bottom because it looked irritated the first day. We have 34 chicks. Our brooder is 6 feet round. Hay ground. They eat chick starter and a heat lamp set at 95. Since we have separated her it hasn't gotten worse. So I'm hoping her feathers will come in soon so we can put her back with the others. We are building a bigger brooder so they have more space as they get bigger. Fingers crossed it won't get worse.

Hopefully the bigger brooder does the trick. At least it sounds like the little chick is doing well, and that back area should start feathering out around 3, 4 weeks or so, so she won't be bare for too long.
