The legs are taped to prevent splaying. 2 more still drying in the hatcher and more incubating!

how sweet I never saw a baby ostrich before only grown ups at the zoo. When does their neck start lengthening, and their legs stretching out.? Maybe they are kinda accordion pleated inside and eventually it works out.

I saw a video on young ostriches in someone's house and they were running around having a good time. What surprised me was they have a visible amount of wings - whereas Emu have a little flap. I wondered which one was farther along in their evolutionary ascent

Reds are really scarce now! Could you post some pics of the adults later if you dont mind? I used to have a huge pair of reds years ago, the male got so mean that you could not go in the pasture with them. But they are so large and impressive. I would love to have another pair.

the legs of an emu spayed if caught in the early stages can be corrected with med , I have a grown emu who originally had spayed leg developing and with med's it was corrected , however he now has a club foot that is still turned out , and he is 2 year old now however he doesn't have any problems he just looks different when he walks but you have to look hard to notice . I was told by everyone that it can't be corrected but big foot proved to me that not every one is right , I am so glad , however you are right by taping the leg it will in most cases prevent the problem .your baby is so cute .thank you for sharing .
