I’m so upset! Five of my silver apple yard ducklings from Metzer are dead. They died within an hour of showing symptoms. However, they also seemed smaller than the one left and never quite as vigorous as the one left. I bleached the brooder and all my equipment before they arrived. I do mix my own feed that my other ducks and chickens happily eat. I of course add niacin, and added rooster booster to their water(which I usually do for a week or so upon receiving chicks). The one left still s email healthy, but is very upset to be alone. However , I wouldn’t dare add another one until I know she’s healthy.

Place a mirror in the brooder for company.
Very sorry for your loss. Did you contact Metzer?
I will try the mirror. I don’t want to put another in there now, since the survivor may be a thyroid Mary.
I contacted Metzer, but since it’s Sunday, I don’t expect a call back yet. This all happened this weekend.

Out of curiosity what was the symptoms you mentioned? Sorry about your loss. We lost one last week, it was 1 of the 7 Muscovy. It didn't make the shipping well. Suspected we was going to loose it soon as we got them. It was just lethargic and even though we showed it water and it drank some and we got it some good, it just didn't really move around. We lost it within about the first 2 hours, but so far rest have been doing good. We actually bought them through another hatchery, but I know they came from Metzer.

So sorry for your loss, that is traumatic. And for the little left behind!! I'm also curious about the symptoms your babies had? I just got an order of 4 from Metzer on Thursday and one died Saturday morning. I was thinking maybe she had aspirated something into her lungs....her breathing was rattly, then turned to a little click, and she also was spitting food and mucus from her beak from the first night I had her. She eventually stopped eating.

They were all very healthy, and moving around. However, about an hour before death they lost the ability to walk, and then their necks went limp. I kept one alive a little longer by putting droplets of rooster booster in its bill. Not sure if that was a great idea, because it still died.

The sole survivor is doing ok, but seems distressed. If I can get it to keep going, I have some mature ducks it can join once it feathers out. At this point, I don’t have the highest of hopes.

If it were me, I would find another duckling ASAP to put with her. It's very possible that it's not something contagious, and she's going to be tormented for a long time if you keep her by herself until she's fully feathered. Even then, she's not going to be fully accepted for some time.
