$5 each for 5 week old hatchery Roos? Is that a good price?

We do that here as well.We know they will have a permanent home at freezer camp, but for now, they can stay in the chicken run with the others.

I've sold several roosters to really good homes that didn't want to kill them for $5 each. I just sold a nice one last month for $10.

Depends on where you live:-( They are a dime a dozen here...sad really

There are a lot around here too, and people do give them away for free, but I think it just depends on how you advertise. There a lot of people that buy pullet chicks and don't have a rooster to go along with them. The trick then, is to reach those people, instead of just reaching people who want free roosters to eat. The rooster I sold for $10 was to a lady that had just about half-a-dozen hens and a bantam rooster. She wanted a bigger-sized rooster for her bigger hens. I think you can find good homes for roosters almost anywhere, if you are willing to put some effort into it. I try to outline all the positives in my ads (very tame, show quality, etc), not that there really any negatives. My roosters aren't mean, so that's not a problem.

I sell them for a buck or two a piece. If they don't sell I raise out give finisher feed, or krinkle and eat them. Heck my neighbors kids age 11 and 13 slaughter for me if i don't get to it. Good eating and sometimes that is just were run off Roos go. I will tell you fresh chicken beats the pants off store bought.
