I recently bought a secondhand Little Giant foam incubator to use as a hatcher. As many have, I've found myself frustrated by the temperature inconsistency with the still air model. However, after a bit of experimentation and a trip to Walmart, I may have found a solution: a $5 USB-powered desk fan.
This is probably a solution that someone's already thought of before, but I thought I'd share for anyone else who might have been frustrated by this. I saved a ton over buying a forced air model incubator, and temperatures are now holding steady throughout the entire thing - not hot in the center and cold in the corners.
Finding the right configuration did require a bit of finagling. I found that the best position for the fan was on the top right, so it could blow reliably across the heating element, and diagonally across the incubator. I also ended up having to plug the bottom hole because too much air was escaping from it. Right now, temperatures are holding steady with only one hole plugged, but I'll keep this thread updated as things progress (lockdown just started today, yay!)
