*5 MONTH OLD.....ROOSTER OR PULLET??*

Thanks! Yeah she (hopefully) is a really pretty and hilarious chicken. Keeps me entertained!

Having a guess here.

Your reference to them being 'chooks' makes me think you are in Australia. Here the Australorp is really quite common, more so than other breeds like Orpingtons.

Based on that assumption, I am going to assume it's a light blue Australorp, or due to the patches, a dark splash coloured Australorp.

I also think it is a pullet. This is based on it being 5 months, or 20 weeks.

It has a considerable comb and is quite red in the face, which points to approaching lay. Ours laid about 24 weeks.

I can't make out any hackle or sickle feathers which are a male trait. A cockerel at that age would have had a comb that size and colour for a few months, and big wattles to match.

I am 95% confident, you have a pretty girl who 'weather pending' will lay for you in 3-6 weeks.

Close call! I am in New Zealand!

Thanks for that and it makes sense. I googled that and found them to be very similar looking to her :D

I'm going with 'she'. And she looks exactly like one of the girls in our flock. We hatched some eggs back in January. We have a beautiful white rooster that was purchased as a day old chick from the "exotic breed" cage at the feed store. (I've never determined just what breed he is). The egg was from our barred rock.

NZ...I was so close hahahah My family are all from the north.

Apart from location, I still stand by the rest. Let us know if we are right or wrong when the time comes.

Most of our roo's crowed well before 5 months of age, but some do hold off if there is not another one in ear shot.

Unfortunately I have no idea of the breed! When I posted previously, some people suggested possible Australorp or Andulasian cross of some sort. We placed some fertilized eggs (from a friend who has many roosters and hens but isn't a breeder per se) under our Light Sussex hen and she ended up with a variety of colours including this little one :)
It's a blue and shes a hen
