5 New Breeds-tell me what you know

My Black Australorp is a sweetheart, and my EE roo LOVES her like no other. She doesn't pick on anyone, is human tolerant and will eat from my hand. Once she got her groove she lays an egg pretty much every day.

My EE pullet is also very sweet, and sits on my shoulder frequently. She just started laying a couple days ago, was the last to start but lays a beautiful blue green egg. She is my favorite girl for her personality.

Aww can you send a pic?

@TheCuteOrpington here they are this morning. Pepper and Emmett, Tris wouldn't come out from under the lemon tree

I
1) Salmon Faverolles and
2) Dominiques
Don't know much about 'em.

5) Brown Leghorns
I do know that they are lovely but flighty and do better in hot climates than cold (especially single comb ones). They blend in a little better than the white ones.

3) Australorps
These are really great birds. Very large but definitely been bottom of the hierarchy in my flock every time I get them. They lay eggs like crazy, really powerhouse layers, have the bulk to survive harsh weather, if you're so inclined they can make good meals. They can be good dual purpose birds. They are gentle, delicate, big birds that love everyone. They go broody a LOT so be prepared to either break them or let them hatch at least once a year... Possibly multiple times a year for younger birds. They are not particularly predator savvy because they're so tame, but I won't say they're much worse than some of the other birds I've got. They're better than silkies or polish for sure.
4) Easter Eggers
These birds are fantastic too but in a different way. They're really weather resistant, frequently lay blue eggs, a nice mix of friendly and smart. I find them to be much more quirky than other birds. Their personalities are very distinct. Not mean in the slightest, they will come up to you, but not exactly cuddly. They tend to just be picky and behave oddly and learn well. Because they're not a purebred bird their traits are all over the place sometimes but that can be fun, too. They do tend to stop laying for the winter more than other birds but lay well spring through fall. These are NOT worth trying to make a meal out of ever. They're strictly egg layers. They're not even worth the time to pluck usually.
I love all the insight! Thank you! The Australorps sound like such sweethearts!
The Brown Leghorns we have this time seem way more laid back than the ones we've had before-I was expecting the typical flightiness and it hasn't taken its grip on them, yet, or something! Lol. They are the first to pop over to our hands to check for treats.
The EEs sound fun in that they are a mixed bag. Maybe one will be nutty enough to enjoy being held...

I don't know anything about the other breeds, but I do know about Australorps. I have a whole standard-sized breeders flock of them! The breeder's Australorp's are bigger than the hatchery one's are. I have them in the Black, Blue, and Splash colors. They are a good dual-purpose breed, and they lay eggs good even here in the hot summer's of the Arizona desert.
Wow! They sound amazing. How did you get started breeding? I keep wanting to find breeder stock for any birds we get around NW OK, but get intimidated by the process of looking! If we get more land at some point, starting up a heritage breeder flock would be something I'd love to get into!

I have 2 salmon Fav pullets, They are the sweetest things. They walk around making peeps and whistles and look like little mushy marshmallows. I love their toes too. They seem kind of..well...not real smart! LOL, but very docile.
My black lorp pullet is quiet, calm and easily picked up.
All the EEs Ive had have been fun. Friendly, not bossy. I love the mystery of egg color and final feathering.

I so hope my Lorps like being held. I just held a couple of my Lorpie chicks and they were super calm and didn't even rush to leave my hand as I set them down. All 6 of my kiddos love holding chicks. This is the 1st time we will be keeping chickens in our main yard. Normally, they get their own specially sectioned off area. So, friendly birds are essential! I'm loving the stories! The Favs do seem very vocal compared to all the others combined. They don't seem to like being held at all, but maybe it's just that they make more noise while being held. Thanks for the pics, too! I love their looks!
