5 things I wish I knew before I started incubating

I would love to do a follow up feedback with ebay eggs but I already left positive feedback because they arrived quickly. If anyone knows how I can go in and change it let me know. I didn't find out after they hatched that they were mutt chickens instead of the pure breed I was looking for.

You might want to get a large disk/knob and glue it to the control knob on the LG. The large disk/knob will act as a turns-reduction mechanism...remember the old tube-type radios with the BIG knobs on them? Those big knobs gave the radios better precision in tuning...turn the tuning knob a 1/4" and the actual stem moved only maybe 1/32".

Just a thought....

Hey, Ed, that's a really awesome idea. Thanks.

Hope it helps! Those guys back in the late 1800's/early 1900's were pretty savy guys working with rocks and wire to make radio back "in the day"...

Go back in and do an update on the feedback you left. You can't change the positive feedback, but you can add an update. You definitely need to do that, so people will beware of that seller. That's just wrong!

I wish everyone would do that! My first 2 batches of eggs came from 2 different sellers on EBAY. I ALWAYS read feedback and if there are any negatives, I judge carefully before I bid. Both batches did really well, and I got nice birds! The first, I ordered 12+ and got 18, shipped over 500 miles, and 11 developed! The second, I got 12 eggs (was 8+), and seven developed. Now, I am getting eggs on here!

Yeah, lots can go wrong and you still get a decent hatch.

BUT...

You can do everything right and get 1 chick out of 18 eggs.

Oh well...

I agree. I hand turned first batch and 3 of 4 hatched are are doing great. I used the auto turner with the second and I got 4 out of 41 alive.

What I wish I would have known?

A chicken egg doesn't hatch in 21 days. It's just a guess and it can take up to a week longer!

I should go on vacation day 19 through day 23 so I'm not sitting at the bator...watching.

Not everyone in the house was going to be as into this as ME!

That watching a chick's beak through a small hole in an egg for the 24th hour...was going to cause the most difficult question! TO HELP OR NOT TO HELP!

That my FEELINGS would kick out all rational logic and understanding of MOTHER NATURE and THINGS HAPPEN FOR REASONS UNKNOWN TO ME!

And yet...still hatching on!
