Some hens do have huge combs. Take leghorns for example. The hens have a HUGE red comb. Of course the males do as well. It is other features added to the comb development that help us when we look at young birds. Hackle and saddle as well as sickle feathers are another good way with most breeds to tell them apart.

The breed you have will have a large comb even though it is a female. The chicken in your pic does not have an overly developed comb for the age of the PULLET. Your chicken also is not showing any sign of male feather pattern in the hackle or saddle.
She is all girl. I am glad she is friendly toward you as well as being the preferred gender.


LOL maybe she should lay an eggie for you so you will believe.
