My 5 week old chicks are a mix of BO and BR. Several times since we put them outside 2 days ago, there are a couple of them that jump and butt their chests against each other. Is this normal? Does this mean I have Roo's in my flock of 14 (1 is a GLP). I was just wondering what kind of behaviour this is and if it is a possible roo. I was guaranteed all hens.
Thanks for the help!

That's how chickens roll. Pullets will do that as much if not more than cockerels. At that age and beyond, sometimes the pullets will be the aggressors with cocks.
It's the start of pecking order establishing flock dominance.

Thank you so much for your response. We raised chickens when I was a child, but we usually always got pullets that were about 10-12 weeks old (I think) they were much bigger than mine. We had some chicks (when we got to keep a few hens, and they mated with our roosters) and they always did the work. This part is new for me, and I am still learning. Love watching them and their behaviours!
