Today when my 5 week old cochin fell asleep in my lap, I notice that he was panting and sounded kinda raspy. my other 13 chicks don't seem to be doing this. He is otherwise acting normal, running around with everyone else and eating like a pig. No drainage was noted around the eyes or nose. The raspy breathing sounds aren't constant. They all get fresh water and purina medicated started feed daily. Complete pine shaving litter changes every week. Mealworm treats everyday as well as occasional popcorn and bread crusts. I'm not sure what the temp is since my thermometer broke but the heat lamp is 5ft up and they have plenty of room to escape the heat. I've done searches on here and have no idea what it could be. Please help.

At 5 weeks in an Alabama summer they don't need a heat lamp. Don't waste the electricity.
All chickens start panting at 85 degrees.
Like you, I don't use a thermometer. Rather I give a warm spot and plenty of cool space - just like a broody hen.
