I am a new chicken mom. I got 3 female Easter eggers who are 5 weeks old now. This morning this lady made a sound. Could she have tried to crow? Would a hen make a noise like this? Could she be a he?

Hens are able to crow but it wouldn't be until 4-5 months of age...sometimes sooner. They might make a similar sound but it's at a younger age and trying to test out their voice. So yo might have some chicks trying to crow, but it won't be a full-on crow yet :thumbsup Hope that helps!

That looks looks like a cockerel. The comb is large, & pink.

I've had both 3 week old pullets, & cockerels crow. It's not completely unusual.

Hi, welcome to the forum from Louisiana. Glad you joined.

All those photos and none showing a profile where I can see legs or posture. At 5 weeks many chicks start to show development that can be used to help sex them but "many" doesn't mean "all". With many there is absolutely no doubt at 5 weeks but some can be hard.

That pea comb looks a bit big (a male thing) but to me it doesn't look redder than the other chick's comb. Boys tend to have redder combs and wattles than girls. I don't see any wattles. Many (but not all) boys tend to start showing wattles by 5 weeks.

Chickens can make many different sounds with different meanings. They are not all crows and girls can crow. But a cockerel is more likely to crow, even at that age. It's usually really squeaky.

The jury is still out so I would not do anything dramatic yet, but I'm also leaning cockerel.
