So, while I would love to say I'm not sure why my chick isn't feeling well, I can't, I think I know exactly what happened, and seriously need some advice. We finished our large coop addition last week, and were very eager to love the 6+ week old giants and wyandottes to the coop. They were out there a few days and having such a good time, I decided after a few days to move our other brooder of assorted silkies out there. Ranging between 4-6 weeks old. They have two heat lamps in the coop, access to several waterers, chick starter feed, chick grit, and some FF. The smallest, and if course my favorite chick B-Mo has started acting a little strange since the move. It's been rainy and a little cold out so they haven't been in the run, just the coop. I noticed last night he wasn't as active as everyone else he was off to the side by himself. So I made him an emergency brooder with a lamp, electrolyte water with probiotics, and some high protein feed. He lays on his stomach mostly, not moving much. No excessive peeping, I've watched him eat, not really drinking much though. I put a friend in the brooder with him. I'm sure he got cold, or wet or something. General listlessness and sadness abound. I love this little vaulted blue peep please let me know that else I should do!

So sorry to hear about your chick. =(

You might want to read the linked article on Coccidiosis to see if it could possibly be that. Given the young age and the fact that they were recently exposed to the dirt outside, that might be what's going on.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Checked it out and the incubation period for coccidiosis is 5 days. He's only been in the coop 3. It's a concrete floor coop with pine shavings. He was outside in the run one day with his broodermates. Like I said he ate earlier hasn't been drinking much, just checked his vent. While not "shut" it had a beige color pasty but of poop on it. So I wiped him off with a spare baby wipe. He stood up for a while after this. Now he's laying down with his head against the brooder and fees bowl.

I have been so worried about this little peep i haven't been able to sleep- having an EBF 8 month old doesnt help either. He ate a little more and will drink if I dip his beak in the electrolyte water. He just now though lifted his head with a chirp and is lying like a normal bird and not like death. so a small improvement but i'll take it.
