I have a nine year old hen that I suspect has cancer and she's nearing her end. I know it's very difficult. Mine is very thin, getting weak, and is now in a wire crate so that she doesn't get attacked by her flock mates. She lays by the crate door and talks to me and to all her flock mates as they pass by and visit her, but she's safe. She is still eating a bit, relatively comfortable, and happy to be with her flock, so I'm leaving her be for now. I am prepared to step in if necessary and not let her suffer unnecessarily. I also have another that has salpingitis, and who will go soon as well. She enjoys having the other in the crate that she can lay next to. It's the hard part about having chickens, but as good stewards, we have to take their needs into consideration first. I'm always sad when I lose one.
