5 year old hen, thin, eating active, but slowing down.. diarhrea with yellow white slime

Ok, thanks everyone, but I have more questions..

Since I found the worm a few days ago, I gave her Wazine in her water. I don't know how much she drank of it, but I don't think she drank much. The safegaurd and the valbazen arrived in the mail today... I did not know what to do- if the Wazine dosage with this dosage would be too soon? She is very emaciated, though remarkably she acts kind of normal. I even put her back outside for the last two days since the temperature was over 50 degrees. She did fine. I keep her in at night since it is below freezing. In fact, yesterday when the temp dropped to 40 degrees F later in the early evening, she notified me that she wanted in by coming up to the back door window!

She is eating. She is just very thin. I'm worried about the Wazine dosage I gave her a few days ago (which may not have been much because it was not a drench- as I think they put it- but mixed with the proper dosage in a gallon of water. I have the needle-less syringe to put the 1/2 cc/ml of valbazen into to give her, and I'm not sure of the dosage yet on the safegaurd, but will look that up- however, should I give both or one of those? I guess I will go with the safegaurd first. But is it too early to treat her with that? Perhaps something else is going on? She has been treated all last week with antibiotic. She seems better, but only a bit and her problem is not going away.

Also, does one worm found mean many? I was talking with a friend and they said it might just be one worm, without any sort of infestation problem, or that it might not be her real problem causing her demise.

The other note is that I found a bit of what looks like lash egg - smaller than a dime in size- in her droppings recently. I do not feel any swelling in the abdomen like my hen that just died from EYP (necropsy confirmed, albeit a very amateur one done by newbie necropsy-er, me)

So should I treat with Safegaurd first? Should I wait a few days more to treat at all? Can I use both the valbazen and safegaurd together? I hope someone can help me out here soon...

Thanks in advance for all your replies and help!

Do not use the Safeguard and Valbazen at the same time. I would use the Valbazen. Do not worry about the Wazine you used in the water. She probably didn't drink enough of the water to do her any good.

If your hen is emaciated, time is of the essence.

Ok, last night I gave her the valbazen, 1/2 cc. I was not sure earlier if it would treat cecal worm. I'm supposing it will do as well of a job as safegaurd?

Anyway, how soon should I notice a difference in her if it was worms that were causing her illness/emaciation?

Thanks again for all your help and replies.

When a chicken that has a worm infestation is dosed with Safeguard or Valbazen, you should see improvement pretty soon. Just remember, you may see improvement in a few days, but full recovery may be a long drawn out process, depending on how ill she is.

x2 when my hens look depressed from worms and I medicate them they spring back within a couple of days I would say. But if terribly sick from it the process may be longer. They can so easily die from worms.

Don't forget to retreat at 10 days, at least that is what I do - to break the life cycle of the worms.

There was one gal that had a 3 year old peahen that had both capillary worms and coccidia, for her it took weeks of intensive supportive care before she could put he back outside.

Is she still eating and drinking?
Oh yeah, she ate two scrambled eggs today. She has interest in her normal feed although she doesn't eat for long or finish what is in her dish... only the egg. I ran out of yogurt, but before she was eating all of that too.
