50 doz fertile eggs!

Nope, it was 50 Doz eggs. It's some science program they have for kids. They have 50 bators they use for it. 1 per classroom. I know it sounds like a huge number. Thanks for the Morgan place. I forgot about them.

This still bothers me. Even if half hatch that is 300 chicks that will need care and a home.

Hopefully they have a plan for the chicks, and like missprissy says, not to be sent home with students.

If they do this every year though, you'd think they have a source and outlet for the birds by now.

Wow! While this poses a lot of questions it's not as bad as I thought. I thought Lonecowboy had just ordered 50 doz. to hatch.

It would be great if the district purchased eggs for the breeds that LoneCowboy uses and allowed first pick of the chicks. The district would get the eggs that they need and lone could get some additional birds for free.

** I do have to wonder about the rest of the chicks, though...**

Yeah, I've got some leads so I'm going to call tomorrow and get more info.

We really do live in a pretty rural area, so people can have chickens. In boulder city, they are even legal in city limits. But yeah, if I could get the pick of them

that would be awesome.

I'm kinda new to this area, so I asked a lady how many schools are in the district, and she just said A LOT!

I dunno... unless they will be commercial meat or layer breeds, sold after initial school-raising to a commercial outfit, I have to say that my reaction would be to tell the school district where to go (and I don't mean for eggs), politely I suppose, and then write strong although politely-phrased letters to the school board and local newspaper.

Otherwise it is way too much like 'oh, let's let out dog/cat have a litter or two of puppies/kittens so the kids can witness The Miracle Of Birth, if we can't find people to take 'em off our hands we'll just drop them off at the pound to be killed'

Animals are not paperclips or coloring books.

Schledt hatchery has hatching eggs for $5 doz. I know someone who ordered 100doz, and I have about a doz of them in my bator right now. So far all are growing.
