Sorry this happened to you, happened to me too. My miniature dachshund broke into the coop and killed 5 out of 6....I was just as heartbroken as my girls were (6 and 8 yrs old). Got rid of the dog. (not saying that's what you should do...mine had a long list of transgressions and this was the last straw). Ours had just been moved outside (from the rubbermaid on the coffee table, lol) by the in-laws as I was convalescing from an unexpected surgery. I had a temporary coop that I got for free that was being used. My father-in-law made a good effort securing the coop and what we thought was dog-proofing....had 2 ft of plywood as the base so the chickens weren't visible. I really didn't think the dog (he's only about 10inches tall) could get in there but I had caught him chewing on corners of the coop, etc and re-enforced so that he could chew till the cows came home w/out getting in. The way he got in was to tear off the wire above the plywood, it was only stapled, and then jumped in. I'm still amazed at his tenacity. I lived and learned the hard way. The new 'temporary' coop in progress is a FORTRESS. I say temporary b/c it was only meant to house them during that 'too big for the rubbermaid, big coop not finished yet' phase. Again, sorry for your loss, I feel your pain as my calamity happened pretty recent.
