LOL.......I think where you live you will need southern advice. I am up north where we have to worry about the winter weather. Down there i dont suppose you need as solid of a coop. I would think anything would be good if it keep predators out. I bet your Dad will know what you need. What kind of chicks do you have?

I sent the plans. Let me know if you need any suggestions or ideas. I will try tp post a pictures of mine. Its a work in progress, but the girls and Francois don't mind.

i have
5 white rocks
8 white leghorns
5 black sex links
5 RIR
5 partridge rocks
5 light brahmas
5 delawares
6 barred rocks
5 SLW
and
1 EE

Well thats a nice mix. Congratulations!!! I think its a great idea to start with all different breeds to see how they may differ. I hope you post pics of your new chicks for us to see

I would love to have plans! My original idea wasn't such a great one, so I'm back to square one. Our birds are 6 weeks old, so I"ve got to get a move on it!

The best way is to find a plan online for your base idea. I found one that I modified for my chicks and it works out great. It stands off the ground to deter predators and I enclosed the bottom to give them a run to scratch and play. I just have to make a door down there because my white Silkie male Francois doesn't like to go back in at night. He makes a dirt nest and sets down there. I think he needs time away from living with 9 girls.

Hey Chickman, I thought I read awhile back that you had a barn or shed to convert to the coop, do I have you mixed up with someone else or did that plan fall through? I remember thinking that the chickens would have it made because it was a pretty big place.
