Is anyone else hatching a bantam breed?? I love my tiny chickens.

Hoping to find some bantam EEs for my spring hatching.

Im hatching silkies with this hatch along. A little nervous to raise silkies in the cold weather we get her in NH but if my tiny Japanese Bantams can survive the winters I can manage silkies too. I love bantams Id like TONS more but DH says they are "worthless" He thinks that because they lay bite size eggs. I like to remind him that the bantams are our best layers. Im getting 3 a day from the 6 of them. While I am only getting 1 LF egg a day from the 18 LF chickens.

What kind of bantams do you have?? I have 3 cochins that are almost 5 months old now.... hatching more!

Another thing I want to ask... It's summer here and the temperatures read between 82 and 94 in the house during the daytime at the moment. Can I store the eggs out of the fridge, or is in the fridge better?

The fridge is a bad idea because of the low humidity--frost free and all that. Away from drafts like air conditioning is best.

I keep them in an egg flat tilted a bit and give them a half turn a couple of times a day. It is best to keep them in a humid place in your house.

Try a wanted ad on Craigslist or the local feed store. I answer about 10 of those a year.

Im hatching silkies. I also have a mille fleur and plan on collecting her eggs

I'll be hatching Silkie eggs, they're the only ones laying right now. I am getting 4-6 eggs per day from 8 hens. I set 33 last Saturday and 29 yesterday, saved 3 back to put with today's eggs for someone picking them up tomorrow to hatch. I can ship some if someone wants to try some. I haven't shipped yet but I'm happy to give it a try if someone wants some. Feel free to send a PM. I also have a fellow keeper nearby I can pick up some barnyard mixes from if you want a mix. I can touch base with her and ask her how much she wants and whether she is able to collect some for me.
