5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Contrats on the new incubator too by the way. What do you plan to hatch?
Thank you! Light Brahma's from a local friend, CL from a man about 1 hr away, a random dozen from papabrooder (meeting his wife 2 hrs from home - amazingly sweet people!) and filling the rest up with our own MF leghorns.

The 9th and 10th will be spent on the road gathering eggs. Previously we've hired incubation services and had horrid hatch rates from shipped eggs. I am beyond delighted to find people within driving distance that will help us fill the incubator!

Oh My!

You will have so many chickens!

My light Brahmas just started laying again! Looks like I'll be able to do both this hatch and my Christmas day hatch.

sitting here reading all your post and seeing how excited you are makes me wish I had an incubator. I would love to give this a try. sounds like even tho it's alot of work, it's fun too. I guess I will have to be excited for you, and some day maybe I will be able to join you. Wish you all good luck, I love babies :) Hope you guys will post lots of pic's.

Now I just hope my two new boys are fertilizing the eggs. I saw the one climb on the hen the one day but her butt was to the wall so he gave up. Both of his hens have dirty backs which is a good sign. Not sure on the other boy, I've seem him flirt a lot though.

Trust me it's VERY simple. As long as you don't get a piece of crap incubator it doesn't require much thought.

They are probably fertile. They do not have to mate all that much really.
