YAY! They shipped another incubator! And it's here, it's here! And hey, if I get lucky, maybe the other incubator will show up eventually

Told my girls today, they better get with the egg making or I'll hire their replacements NYD

so im getting some eggs but I dont know what day to have them sent if they are to get here by the 11th?

I'm having my shipped ones sent on the 6th (Friday). My hope is they'll arrive Monday and have time to rest and reach room temp before going in the bator.

Im sure a lot of you have already seen this video but I think it is hilarious, well because its true. Take note those of you who are new to chickens and hatching because one day soon this will be you. I know I became victim to this.

Hazards of backyard hens

OMG that is SO me I'm ashamed to say!

It started with just a few hens for fresh eggs... then I wanted rabbits and then goats... I even considered hogs.

But those got taken off the table because we have so many wild hogs here.

Well, I'm planning on staying in. I haven't start collecting eggs yet, since all is not said and done about finalty of my being able to do it. In my last hatch, I had two home grown Amerucana eggs. One was fresh, and the other was refrigerated. Both hatched, so I'm planning on hatching some refrigerated eggs, just so I get enough.

My my very first ever incubator arrived! Now I am reading directions and learning how to calibrate and manage the menus.

Brinsea mini advance, scratch and dent, but I haven't found the scratch or dent, yet. Hope it functions correctly!

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY broody hen is sick!!!!! Respiratory..... Has labored breathing and foamy stuff coming out of her eyes. Also, she moved off her eggs ONTO the golf balls. So, she had one new egg underneath her she was on.... SO I tossed the 3 she WAS on, since they were very cold to the touch. I removed one golf ball and will slowly remove more as she lays more eggs.... Assuming she survives. I gave her injection of some antibiotic (Tylan) today and am hoping that works for her. She's the last of the 3 I had that are black with brown stripes!!! The other 2 got sick and died!!!!!!!

So.... tomorrow I may give her extra stuff in a syringe when I get home, to make sure she gets fluids..... Assuming they all survive the 7 degree temps tonight!!!!!

Are bantums really that much more sensitive????? I seem to be losing WAY too many to illness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your chickens

But just a bit of info incase you weren't aware, Respiratory diseases are highly contagious and will spread to your other flock members and even passed through the eggs to the chicks. You can treat the disease with antibiotics and while your chicken seems cured she will still be a carrier of the disease and then shed it and the disease will then picked up by the other chickens or chicks. There is a good chance you will have reoccurance and other chickens may die. A lot of people would cull a sick flock and disinfect everything thoroughly and start fresh while others will keep a closed flock and not bring anything else in or send anything else out including hatching eggs or chicks.
