5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Alright, I'll play! I have a brand new Sportsman 1500 and I am setting a few eggs for a test batch. I will wait and set them tomorrow when I can get a pic made. I'm excited! Thanks, Ron!

BTW - I may not be reading all 179 pages that are already here, so if there is something important that I missed, let me know! Just PM me a page number and I'll be sure to read those.

I have added you to the list!

I hope the new incubator works great for you!

One bator tray full =42 egg. I think I should get about 18 more if the girls keep laying like they have been.

This cold snap has slowed my girls down today. Hopefully they will adjust and lay a bunch of eggs tomorrow. I have for collected so far.

I will stay.

That's a great idea about selling most of the chicks and keeping a few. I am part of the grange and we have farmers markets every saturday 1-6 and people sell fresh eggs and veggies and stuff and sometimes people bring a couple hens to sell. I could sell chicks there and sneak a couple into the chicken coop! I can keep the ones i like and sell the rest at the farmers market. I could also ship them to people here on byc and other places! This would be great for me because I can't have roosters that are at all loud because neighbors complain and want to hatch and raise lots of chicks so this is great. Plus If I'm lucky and get a rooster who is quiet I can keep it to breed with my hens!

Great info!!! Any other good ideas out there??

Sooo happy I didnt unsubscribe!!

So ron, the chicken diagrahm you posted....does that mean my air spaces are ok tilted? They were in the fridge.....so it may jsu be that.

When rotating in bator, buts of the egg should be facing up correct? To allow the air spot up for the pip hole?

Correct. Air cell/large end up. That'll help them position correctly and orient themselves throughout incubation. Then you can lay them on their sides when they are almost due to hatch.
