5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I've had an on the side air cell before. I was just careful to position it on lockdown with the air cell at the top of the egg and the chick hatched out just fine, with no help from me. If you're incubating in an egg carton, as the cell grows it will grow toward the top of the egg, and eventually it will be big enough so that when the chick pips, it will most likely be able to pip into it despite its weird position. That's what happened with mine, anyway.

Wow...this process is so amazing! I will leave it in then and see what happens!

I am on day 9... and I really REALLY wanna candle, but the grands are here and the little one is a bit 'hands on', I don't dare go near that bator with him here.

sneak in the room saying you need to go to the bathroom.....stay in there for a bout 10 minutes and get a peak! id do that! hahahah

That's smart! Although there are 'no holds barred' in this ones opinion, I had to lock the bathroom to shower today and he banged on the door relentlessly while I was in there, laying down in front of the door when I came out. Thank God I had my clothes in the bathroom, I could have scarred the poor thing for life.

I put my Turner on today but took the detatched air cell egg.out of the turner and put it to the side in an egg carton. now I have to stay away until day 7 some how :( I hope i didnt handle my.eggs too much. this is stressful! Lol

I really enjoy your posts....reminds me of my very first hatch. You are doing great, I know people who candle everyday that manage to hatch. Just remember to breathe.

quick question guys. say i set 10 eggs in an incubator... and 2 end up being not fertile... and the other 8 hatch. would that be a 100% hatch rate or 80%? i want to know if un fertilized eggs count towards your hatch rate

:D okay I'm trying to breathe lol. I think we are christmas shopping today so that will take my mind off of it. also we got a foot of snow last night so I'm busy with my outside girls shoveling paths for them and putting hay down to keep their feeties warm. first winter with chickens and goats....

I know one thing,,these folk that put little pop up so you will buy their crap is ridiculous.. I can not view what I want with out a stinking pop up..Everywhere they are,,Every pic i try to look @ on this site like the forum. Its distracting as hell. This site put the effort in fixing said issue with posting pic. Instead they have this put into the programs,,,IRRITATING<<<<

I don't get any pop ups at all on this site. The top right corner is an add but that stays there when I scroll down I have blue to the sides of my main area. I guess there is advertisement at the bottom of the page also.

I personally count the unfertilized eggs towards my hatch rate. Not sure if you're suppose to.
