this is my momma hen and her chicks(my now hens) this last may and now she is sleeping under table that the bator is on, waiting for her grand babies to hatch lol she is full grown and weighs 2lbs and when the time came to move her babies outside my 100lb Rott was very curious and momma hen chased her off and for first week slept in their starter coop with them lol

How precious! It's so sweet when animals adopt babies of another species.

Knew It!!

Candled some yesterday

Yesterday was Saturday, right? Only did 5 out of 31 so I still exercised tremendous restraint! LOL I'm afraid to disturb the process. It's our 1st hatch

So the blue ones are really hard to see through but I could tell they had nice big air sacks. Hopefully that means they are growing. The brown one I could see some veining. But the leghorns. Those beautiful creamy eggs - they have all kinds of veins! It's a miracle! We were so excited! Turned off the light at the dinner table and candled with the kids. Used a flashlight and a rolled up magazine to narrow the point of light. What a neat evening! Amazing!

just did my day 7 candle! 10/12 are showing development! 2 are clear. what am I gonna do with that many chickens? I even saw embryos in the light colored eggs I think my humidity is too high, i traced the air cells and they still seem a bit small. ill let it go down and check again next week with the chart. 2 of my developing eggs have detached air cells tho :/ if I put them in an egg carton for lock down will that help? I still dont know what ill do with ten chickens! I hope i dont screw up now!

I pulled 6 out the other night, blood rings in all of them. Have 8 I am going to check tonight that were clear when I candled on day 7 or 8. Hoping some have something going on in them. If not that will then leave me with 24 eggs. Lock down for me is X-Mas eve

Could you please tell me what blood rings are, what they mean, where they are, and how to find them? I saw this term referenced elsewhere and I have no idea what blood rings are. I need to know what to look for in my eggs since this is my first hatch. Thank you!

ok this is my first hatch and i grabbed 4 eggs 7days befor set and kept in egg carton with air cell up and book under 1 side and switched sides 2x a day and temo in room at 65 but it should only be day 7 ? since i put in bator last wen. but they look like 14 day now my light blue eggs i cant see well into but can kinda see veins with big air cell.but they started out nornal dot on day 2 and veining on day 3 and was dark looking in yesterday but could see them moving.is it possible they are fast or started griwing befor bator or did they die?

the top two are blood rings. It is a dead embryo--Bacteria and etc.
