5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I think I'm getting sick, Oh no, I went over to my BF's sisters house on Christmas and her husband was spreading the holiday sickness like we all wanted it for a gift....Now I can't stop coughing, that is what he had and I have to work on new years eve and new years day (actually signed up to work double time and holiday pay for both days, can't pass that up)

2 days til lock down and 5 days to go hatch hatch hatch

I woke up at 3 or 4a.m. and put more water in the bator to get us from 45 to 60%. Then I went back to sleep and had a dream than every one of them hatched and I didn't know who was who because I woke up to 29 chicks (after missing the ENTIRE hatch) with eggshell dust everywhere. A chicken newbie nightmare!

It bothered me so much that I went to draw a map of who is in which egg lol! Now I feel better though. Oh, and I dreamed that someone dropped off 100 seagull babies, insisting that I had ordered them.

I just got a bag of grower and it's 16% so I was going to get medicated starter in a small bag for the first week or so, should i not get medicated? the only starter i can get is dumor

I use medicated, because I'm a thrifty spender. Seriously, that's my only reason why. There's no health-related reason, in my opinion, to feed medicated...they aren't exposed to cocci until they are outside.

A 50 lb bag of medicated starter is $15.50 at my local Southern States. A 25 lb bag of non-medicated is $9.00 (they don't sell it in 50 lb bags). So if I buy 2 of the non-medicated, it would be $18.00. I save $2.50 by buying the medicated.

Stupid reason, I know...but with a brand new house, I need to pinch pennies wherever and whenever I can

It seems to be something going around. My husband, my youngest daughter and myself all have it. Horrible cough and feels like I have hot coals in my chest. I hope you feel better soon.

I think I'm pulling out of it. The fever finally broke this morning. Nyquil is my bestest friend right now.

Quote: Thank you Ron! I had a third hatch on her own…now DS wants me to get in there and help others….I really don't like to 'help' unless it's been over a day since they pipped. He's anxious. I think my temp may have been at 99 throughout and 100 for lockdown. I had 2 thermometers going in the incubator, one at 99 and one at 100, well…now I'm thinking the 99 was was correct.

Today is my Chickmas! Dd20 came home from college last night and got the best Christmas gift of all...she got a job working for the same airline as dh, with good benefits! It was so sweet watching them sleep on the couches by the Christmas tree.

As I was topping off their water just now, I heard peeping!!!

And two of our smaller CCL eggs are externally pipped! A few others might be, but the darn maxi pad is in the way.

Well...off to do my morning chicken chores and spend time with the family. We are opening prezzies tonite! I will be back later with updates on the pipsqueaks!
Aren't they ALWAYS!
