5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I AM SOOOOO DARN HAPPY TO HEAR ABOUT EVERYONES LUCK WITH HATCHING THEIR CHICKS SO FAR!
(its ok for you all that haven't had anything hatch yet.......I still have one rocking egg left, with NO pip)

I was hoping to get a little showgirl out of these batches, but I did not......that's OK.

From my breeder I ordered silkie eggs......3 of the 7 silkie eggs are actually japs....oh well! LOL

here is what have hatched:
1 white silkie
2 buff silks (one is crossed beak)
1 black silkie Japanese bantam mix
3 Japanese bantams
4 OE cross crosses (I know its a mouthful.....my hen was a cross of who knows what, and ended up as an OE....then she crosses with my back silkie AND Japanese bantam.....so some babies have bantam legs and splotches of black skin.....LOL)

ONE MORE OE CROSS CROSS EGG LEFT!

GOOD LUCK to everyone who has NOT gotten pips zips and chickies! I"m with you guys in this one!

Oooo I heard my first peep coming from an egg!!!

Still only 2 pips, one of them is rocking up a storm! Hoping I get a zip soon...although I know it can be a while (24 hours seems so long to wait!!!!), I'm hoping....

Hubby is home from work today, kids don't go back to school until Monday...I pray at least ONE of the pippers hatches today because hubby goes back to work tomorrow. Maybe if he sees the miracle of a fuzzy butt hatching out of an egg, I'll have less eye rolling and more support when I talk about my chickies!!! Here to hoping!

Finally took some pics of the pipped eggs...moved the bator from my bedroom to the dining room table, that way my boys, mom, and I can watch without fear of waking Sleeping Beauty up (that would be the hubbs)

Congratulations!!!!

Egg @ upper right - is that window distortion, or is it really swirly/mottled brown & gold? (looks beautiful, but I've not seen such an egg before, so... I'm REALLY CURIOUS!!!!

Chickens are not like a vending machine--You can't pop in some quarters and get a chick out. They often work in their own frustratingly slow time frame...

I love it!
I always say they aren't egg machines, they're animals that happen to produce copious amounts of delicious protein If well cared for, but they still take breaks.

You mean like me? Caught the gal making her delivery of EEr eggs to the feed store I was just in. They were still hen-warm. *cough* I may have a problem.

Did you say those green store eggs were fertile?
Can I ask a favor? If you post a pic, could you add what the breed is also?
Good idea. Not to be mean but I'd rather know the breed than the birds name. Did anyone guess that my birds have numbers instead of names?

Had to post more. These are both blue Orpington. I am seriously so happy I have tears in my eyes! My first attempt at hatching eggs last month was a disaster with no surviving chicks!
Do you know what you did differently this time than last?
