5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I'm thinking just do a random post # (I know you have one like that already) but it is pretty easy, pick a backup higher # in case the poster doesn't want the eggs of course.
But basically no voting, no judges, no clutter, just somebody will hit the lucky number and poof, contest winner, done deal.

<shrug> maybe not as thrilling as some more fancy contests but
personally aside from the already announced best hatch & cutest chick pic. I wouldn't mind at all if all additional contests were just random post # jackpots. We are gonna post up this thread big time soon enough.

Keeping the contests way more simple than last year feels like a good stress reducer for everyone :)

The fact that there ARE prizes is wonderful, big thanks to all those donating prizes!!!

I will donate a hand painted "fresh eggs sign" for a contest. I will post pictures later. I am an artist ;-) Maybe it could be a photo caption contest or maybe it can be a most festive chicken photo contest?

sorry guys!!! im asking so many questions!!!

but is is mandatory to stop turning the eggs 2 days before the hatch???

sure sure we all now you are just trying to increase your odds of winning the random post contest

You also don't want to turn or mess with eggs during lockdown because you want to keep the humidity in the incubator high.

Well out of 16 eggs 12 were great. Two were broken and two were badly cracked. Have them setting now gonna slip them in tomorrow. These totally turned my crappy day around

So excited for all the contests going on!!
I was wondering if when is too cold to gather eggs to set?
It was mid forties today and I didn't gather the eggs until just a little bit ago and I was wondering if the temperature will cause the fertility/ hatch possibility to go down. And if I should gather the later and closer to set day eggs when the temperature is warmer?

They were shipped all the way from TN to Idaho. I ordered a mix but are labeled CCL they are white/cream colored

I thought they said CCL. That is what alot people use to abbreviate for Cream Legbar(well the other C is for Creasted) but those would be Blue eggs. HMMM...
