5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Holding steady on my heat(between 99° and 100°) and humidity(43%), so the cabinet I recently acquired seems to be doing well. I only candled a handful of eggs, one La Flèche had no activity, however all of the others looked as to be expected.

That is so eggciting!

I candled tonight and it looks like 9 of the 11 eggs are growing

The two that appear clear are refrigerator eggs, but the other 3 refrigerator eggs are growing. I have never had blue shelled eggs so clear that I could see into them at 4 days along!

Blue Egg Layers from the UofA?

This is one from when I hatched them.

Congrats Chickenboy190! I am totally envious, but very happy for you!

I was finally able to pick up the local eggs today, 2 dozen to hatch and 2 dozen for the fridge, plus the 10 he collected this morning to hatch as well. I took one of the fridge eggs and added to hatch because it's white and huge - gotta' be from the leghorn hen. I also set 7 of my own Silkie eggs and gave the other 6 I had waiting to one of the Silkie hens, who has decided to go broody (yay! - as long as she's okay with another cold spell headed our way next week late). I know they won't count for NYDH because they won't hatch until the 4th, but wanted to share :)

Thanks everyone for the advice - one coop shade coming up. Bottles of water in the freezer. Will see if I can find a solar powered fan, I think you can get them for car windows? But I have a regular fan I can set up near to the door or window to move the air through the coop - I can also open the rear doors to let a breeze go though from front to back.

I'm nervous because I didn't see anything in my eggs today! could it be that my flashlight wasn't bright enough or that I'm not as skilled at this as everyone else?congrats to everyone that is seeing development in their eggs tho! I can't wait to see everyone's chicks! even tho it's still a few more weeks...I can't wait!
