5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

we are on day three and I never see what they show on the charts. Never any veins the first chart shows more of what I see at the start of hatching.

That is so great! What are they...leghorn? I love the leghorn. Or, are they brown eggs? Just not sure of the breed? Interesting.

Trader Joes Fertle eggs are from White Leghorns. They are huge white eggs.

I might hatch more of those eggs this year.

This is one that I hatched.

Oh man, look at that. I always have a leghorn or two on hand, this is a beauty. Look at that pretty tail standing up there. I just love them. And, they are always, always, friendly with me. I want a Trader Joe around here!

Holding steady on my heat(between 99° and 100°) and humidity(43%), so the cabinet I recently acquired seems to be doing well. I only candled a handful of eggs, one La Flèche had no activity, however all of the others looked as to be expected.

Great news! Tend to worry about a new bator/cabinet at first. Glad they are coming along!

I hatched two of them from a dozen so they cost me 1.75 each.

I think that is Luna. I sent them to live in Redding California. The other one was taken by a Hawk or a Bobcat.

I like this chart too. Notice what you see getting to day 18. Just a big bunch of darkness.

I really like this chart. Ok, here is something I read a while back, talking a good year or over...if you are hand turning, be careful as usual, but extra careful on day three until 7.. as you can see here, there is a nice spider web of veins developing..if you turn too fast, you could easily turn that spider web of veins into a blood ring. Made sense to me. I hand turn..so I turn very slowly until day 7, then I feel better about turning a little faster. :) Anyone else hear of this?
