5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I think you have an addon on or something running on your comp your not aware of cause I don't get that when I mouse over you pic nothing happens.

You can get a free program called C-Cleaner (Crap Cleaner) that will remove cookies and unwanted junk files. I thought you were talking about the margin adds that pop up when you run the mouse over them. Took me forever to develop my coordination with my mouse to avoid them without thinking about it. I won't say that that will solve this specific problem but it might.

The Rhodebar eggs came from Papabrooder?

DMRippy...did I quote someone else?  Wouldn't be surprised.    Maybe I quoted where papa quoted  to DMRippy..  Guessing?  Anyway..Donna sent them.

My Rhodebars from Donna are developing nicely too! I read on Green Fire. Farms website that they are bringing in a new line of Rhodebars this Spring? For more diverse genes.

Pullet just went broody this weekend,,She is 9 month,, Gonna set maybe 6 to 8 eggs,, They will be surprise ,either Jersey Giant/Dark Cornish or FBCM I am gonna separate her today. I will have chicks hatching for a week strait. With my Hatcher, I will able to keep both @ proper temps and humidity . Plus the small fridge bounces back to correct setting ,just as fast as the hova 1588....I love DIY projects,,, [/quote She is awesome, is she barred EE. Love her

I candled the white egg's I set, this afternoon. Of the 8, I seen veining in all but one. The others are too dark for me to see anything yet. If all 36 make it I may have to sell or give them away. My last hatch was terrible hatch rate. I put 32 in and got 7. It's was my second hatch. This will be my 3rd. This time though I have made changes. They are in a room that the temperature does not fluctuate. Added an egg turner, and a fan.

I guess we all kinda feel like we are sitting on the eggs ourselves.

Ron- really, there is no fixing it. During my last (attempted) hatching my mom was "watching" him while I went to TSC and he pulled the cord for the turner and yanked the whole thing down on himself. Gggrrrr. It was a knock off I got from Southern States while they were closing out. No big deal and hand turning gives me an excuse to candle. Lol. On the upside, my 2yo is now terrified of the incubator.

Well, I cracked an egg. :(
I don't know how it happened. It is one of the most beautiful eggs I have (pic doesn't do the blue justice), so I candled and put nail polish on the crack. I couldn't see anything candling, but I'm 8 hours behind everyone else and the egg is hard to see into. I'm hoping it still develops and can give me a hen that lays the same gorgeous color eggs. But I guess that's a lot to wish for right now. :fl

Anybody cracked an egg and had it hatch successfully?

One of life's little lessons!

More should be terrified of the incubator!

I hope it makes it!

APHRAEL...we were looking for our 'forever home' for almost a year. We would find a great lot/bad house, or great house/bad lot, but not both until we came upon this one. It has everything we wanted! We knew right away...so that night our realtor wrote up our offer/contract and in it are the chickens and all their supplies! We have a 3 stall covered horse corral that has been chicken wired up to 8 feet. So I am putting up aviary netting around the outside to keep the wild birds out who are eating most of the food.

Hopefully it will be done by Wednesday...I am going through 3-4 bags of 50# pellets every month. And I only have 8 chickens. Grrrrrr!

I really am having fun working on it, and SO grateful that the runs and coop/nests are in place already.
