5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Lol same here. Im 32 and my 3kids think sometimes think Im nuts they say I love my chickens TOO much. They are on board though and they help enable me and I can say to DH aw come on they are for DD not me lol. My oldest is 11 and she is now in love with Silkies that is what we are hatching now, they are for her to start her own flock. My 7yr old loves the farm animals she snuggles the crap out of them but doesn't tend to them much and my 6yr old is my little farmer buddy she wants more animals she helps feed and water them, her New Years wish is to have a bigger farm. She wants cows(thanks DH for putting it in her head) We might need some more land

we are running out of room.

That's awesome!!! I am trying to convince my housemate that we need a goat for milk (I am dying to try to make my own cheese. Yum!)

I have goats and want them for milk but you have to think that to get milk you have to breed them and then you could have up to three kids... so I want milk but at the same time I dont want my two goats to turn into 8! but I'm with ya on wanting to make my own cheese!

Hey ron you seem to know who to talk to about chicken hatching eggs how well do you know about duck eggs? looking for black indian runners for easter hatch but wanted to line someone up before hand I tried the buy/sell/trade already no hits.

@Fowlman Has some of the best Runners in America. He may be able to help you find some.
Is there an adjustment on them or do the chicks just move away as they don't need the heat? they look costly I may have a hard time selling the wife on the idea that I need one. Is there a big difference between it and a heat lamp really?
The 20 has three height settings. The first one is for chicks. As they grow, you raise the level. By 4 weeks or so they often do not need it anymore and start sleeping on top of it.

Roos don't count because they get ate after they crow the first time............

Exactly!

Sell the kids make some money. Just make sure you post they are goats or the cops might be knocking on your door lol.

There are like, five threads dedicated to them, and each one is an endless discussion of cream verses gold feather color. I should probably just pick a different breed. I just really liked the autosexing and the egg productivity and color.
Laughing!

SNAP those eggs look wonderful!!!
They are well glossy.
Thanks

They are all pullet eggs, so the shell quality is at its best. The blue eggs are the ones I am incubating right now. They are all from the same blue wheaten Ameraucana pullet.

I love my bantam BLRWs. The blues are my favorites. I wanted to hatch some eggs from them for the NYD hatch but only this one splash pullet is laying.

Here are a couple of my bantam blue laced red Wyandotte hens~
