5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Mine aren't due until New Years, but always hatch a day early, and recent hatches have started 2 days early, so I expect someone tonight or tomorrow morning. IDK..I have 4 different thermometers, and I don't think I run it hot, but maybe all 4 are wrong and I do. No, I've never calibrated

.

I don't calibrate either. I can feel through the holes, how humid it feels coming up through there. I know, sounds wrong. When I am turning eggs, I just go by how they feel and watch what the thermometer is saying, then go from there. I know how I like them to feel for incubation.
No one try this at home until you have incubated for a few years..lol...

My temperature is great, but my humidity has been steady at 57 since lock down. I will add a water dish when I get home this evening, which will hopefully push it into the mid 60's.

put a sponge in the water dish. The sponge will increase surface area and keep the chicks from drowning in the water.

Oh my goodness, I haven't gone into lockdown yet (1:30...an hour from now)...and one of my eggs is rockin'! What does that mean, it will be an early hatcher??? Should I go into lockdown now and not wait an hour??????

They will rock. It is just the live chick moving inside. Just wait the hour and lockdown. No hurry. They can rock for days before you see anything on the outside. Isn't it exciting!
