Greetings all, this has been a very entertaining read
fosterson, I'd pay good money to have seen that Snoopy dance LOL.
I moved my eggs to the hatcher tonight shortly after 5 pm local, I had set them on 12/11 a little later than that, I think closer to 7 pm (almost past my bedtime - we're usually up around 3:15 ... we have cats ... ). Of the original 12 Barnyard Mixes, 8 are in the hatcher, 3 are clear, 1 is moving but does not look big enough to be ready to hatch so I left it in the incubator. Of the original 15 Silkie eggs, 8 were clears discarded on day 10, the other 7 are in the hatcher, but one is not moving and I don't expect it to hatch, and another was pipped already and cheeping at me
. Like some other Bantam breeds, they often hatch early.
Anyway, that makes 15 of the original 27 in the hatcher, and one still in the incubator. Clears are not a fault of incubation, so I have to say the Eco 40 did a pretty darned good job despite the turner challenges. As I candled and saw movement on one after another, I let out sighs of relief. If all goes well, I think I may get 14 to hatch, and to be honest I will be over the moon, thrilled to death. My friend with the mixes will be happy as well, she wasn't sure her males were doing their jobs, and now I can confirm for her, they are.
I have a vacation day tomorrow that I will probably actually stay home for so I can watch (I usually wind up going to work anyway, or working from home, and I may still do that). I have not had a mid-week hatch in a long time.
You all are so incredibly dedicated, engaged, and supportive, I can't remember the last time I so thoroughly enjoyed a thread. Ron, all credit to you for creating such a great atmosphere. Thanks so much for taking the time you have to help, encourage, and cheer all of us on. There are many others who have contributed priceless information for which I am eternally grateful.
to all!
