5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

My first hatcher is getting pretty fluffy and dried off - should I move her into the brooder? They are marans, so they could take two more days to hatch, though I think (hope) I hear another internal pip. It's a brinsea mini and she has hardly any room. She can't even really stand. But, the faint chirps are probably consoling to her. Decisions, decisions.
I have the same bator. I'm leaving mine in (even though they hatched last night) until tonight after work. I only have 4 other eggs in with them, however. They are a little cramped, but is enjoying the obstacle course. I want to wait til they are dry, and see if anyone else wants to hatch before I get home tonight.

Husband has never 'been around' for hatching - its always happened in another building and he hasn't seen anything except the dry, fluffy cute successes.
He keeps 'happening to notice' the state of the chick every few minutes.... "It's STUCK IN THE CORNER!!!" "He's trapped between two eggs and his leg is sticking up!!!!" "Are you sure you don't need to get him out???" "Are you sure he's sleeping? He MIGHT be dead!"

This has me chuckling - I can SO relate! If they peep a lot, there might be something wrong, better check on them; if they are silent, better check on them, there might be something wrong :) I have to say, it does make it a much more entertaining endeavor!

Wait until the next one hatches. They get lonely by themselves.

Woot another pip this time leghorn x amer. Getting mad though because I cant find my web cam so I cant watch on my screen like I like to do. I got a new desk and I have no idea where it went to. My wife and I both thought we saw it over here at new desk but no dice.
I hope you find the web cam!

We have chickage!

Sparkle is a surrogate mother again! One of the two eggs has hatched. She was clucking and poking her head under her body, then a little head poked out from her feathers. It cheeped a bit, then snuggled back into Sparkle's feathers.

She hatched this chick early; I was anticipating watching her and the Tournament of Roses Parade tomorrow morning as the eggs hatched.
Congratulations!

Look what I got!!

Apparently this little one decided that pipping and then resting for a day was a drag. In less than an hour after her initial pip she was out and scooting round the bator making noise! She even enticed her next door neighbor to pop out a pip now too!

What a cute picture. :)

So need pics of her under the tv.

I set a day later than most of you (the 12th at 1:30) and went into lockdown yesterday.

So far I have nothing but rocking going on. Haven't heard any peeps or pecking or anything. Today is day 19, should I be hearing something by now? I would have thought they'd have pipped internally already...maybe I'm just being impatient, but jeez louise...the suspense is killin' me!!

I love the name Sparkle! I have an EE that I haven't named yet, would fit her great...think I will use that one!

Soon though, you could start seeing pips tomorrow. :) How fun, we will still be seeing baby chick photos a few days after the first. No problem!
