5Wk's EE and Silkie... Roos????

I have really been wondering about my BIG EE... This one is much larger than the others and seems to be the boss of the group... I've been wondering if "she" is a he?

Doesn't really look like a red comb.. and the wattles are practically non-existent...

But check out this tail! Much higher than my other EE's...

and there are little baby spurs... though I've read some hens can have these too...

Since I was posting this I thought I'd try to see what you all think about this silkie (who is a few days older than the EE). Aren't silkies harder to sex?

My feeling is that the silkie is a girl... she is really meek and doesn't boss anyone around... but I wasn't sure if that was a hen thing or a silkie thing... (although my 3 week old black silkie is bossing the other tinies around...)

I'm GUESSING pullets on both.... I'm fairly sure they're pullets... but I'm no expert

Do you have a photo of the silkie's leg? I noticed that my females do not have the spur bumps like the males do.

Kelly, I'm not all that familiar with either breed, so I'll let others help you there. If I had to guess, my guess would be a pullet on the EE.
What I wanted to tell you is that "bossiness" has nothing to do with whether they are pullets or cockerels. The reason being is that besides having roosters, if indeed you have any at all, you are also going to have a top hen. She'll be at the top of the pecking order and will only be submissive to the roosters. In fact, in some flocks without a rooster the top hen will quit laying and take over the rooster's job; even to the point of crowing.

I think the silkie is too young to tell what the sex is.....but the EE looks like a rooster to me. None of mine ever had a pink comb at such a young age. maybe a straight on pic of the EE comb would help.

The EE looks alot like my two that I had a question about at that age. One's comb was pinker than the other, but they both had wider combs than the others, and yes, their tails were different than the other EEs. The pullets' tails were kinda "V" shaped and held down, and these two had fuller tails that they held up. Well, now they are both crowing away....

I did not check my chicks for the spur bumps until they were 5 weeks old. I don't know how early they would appear. Although my boys also have really prominent combs right now too. I also noticed my female silkies are a lot lighter bodied than the males. Your EE looks a lot like a rooster to me. Below are photos of my EE rooster (for comparison to yours) and one of my boy silkies. The EE is 3.5 weeks in that photo (when he started to really show signs of being a rooster), and the silkie is 5.5 weeks old in that photo.

I still have no idea about the EE...

BUT my silkie's comb is much smoother than the picture you posted... Doesn't have any of those nubbies on it... Maybe that means she is a she?
